ch-for-lisp

Welcome to Looking Inside Speech Pathology; a podcast about Speech Pathologists and the people we work with.

In our first episode, I interview Dr. Chyrisse Heine. Chyrisse is a speech pathologist and audiologist who was born in South Africa. She came to Australia in the 1980s and has had an immense impact on the professions of speech pathology and audiology. She has taken on more roles than you will find in a country bakery.

“If I can help anybody in any capacity, I am very happy to be contacted” – Heine, C. (2016)

Episode 3: Tricia McCabe

tricia

Dr. Tricia McCabe is Associate Professor of Speech Pathology at Sydney University. Tricia is an internationally renowned academic, clinician, and researcher with a particular interest in speech across the lifespan. When two lecturers in speech and its disorders get together, guess what happens? They enthusiastically dive down the rabbit hole that is verbal dyspraxia, comparing and contrasting childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and adult acquired verbal dyspraxia as they go. Take a small sip (chin down) every time you hear the word “motor”! ResT assured, this is an interview all speechies will enjoy (especially the bits about cats and cricket).

Episode 2: Alexander O’Sullivan

alexAlex graduated from La Trobe University around a year ago and is about to finish his first speech pathology job, working in inpatient geriatric evaluation and management in Melbourne.

This episode offers insights into being a speech pathology student, starting out in the profession, working with people with dementia, and being a male in a predominantly female profession. Something for everyone.

Apologies for the audio problems – Alex sounds a bit muffled, I had some echoing, we had some background noise. As we all know, communication is not always perfect or easy. I did my best to fix it up as much as I could.
